The Central Valley JATC is proud to announce that Daniel Byrne won the first place overall award at the 2013 Western States Electrical Contest! Daniel is a recent graduate from the Central Valley JATC and was chosen to represent the CVJATC, his classmates and IBEW Local # 684 down in San Diego, California. There were 20 contestants who represented JATCs and IBEW Locals from California, Alaska, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon, Utah & Montana.
This contest was an all-day event that tested the Attitude, Skills and Knowledge of those who participated. The events were based on many subjects that had been studied and learned through a nationally standardized, comprehensive five-year apprenticeship program. Each contestant (and their respective classmates) received this training at their respective JATC. The seven events were: 1) Motor Control Drawing; 2) Motor Control Hands-On; 3) Written Test; 4) Material Identification; 5) Residential Wiring Hands-On; 6) ½” EMT Conduit Bending Hands-On; 7) ¾” EMT Conduit Bending Hands-On. Daniel is the thirteenth contestant to represent the CVJATC at this event, as only one participates from any JATC each year. Daniel is the eighth CVJATC contestant to place in an event, whether it be an individual event or an overall award, and the fifth to place first overall.
