CONTINUED EDUCATION

Local 684 is dedicated to the ongoing educational development of their electricians. Every three years, Journeymen must complete 32 hours of continuing education units (CEUs) as required by the state for their renewal of their electrician license. The Central Valley JATC partners with BlueVolt CE University to help Journeymen meet their requirements for the coursework that includes the 2017 and 2020 National Electrical Code (NEC) changes. State registered apprentices are exempt from certification but must take and pass the test before “turning out” from the apprenticeship program. BLUEVOLT

BlueVolt offers online courses to renew state certification. All electricians are required to obtain 32 hours of continuing education and present proof of certificate of completion to renew your certification. You can renew up to 1 year prior to the expiration date. Your certification expires three years from the effective date.

HISTORY OF CONTINUED EDUCATION

On October 7, 1999 Governor Gray Davis signed Assembly Bill 931 into law. It added Section 3099 to the labor code, which mandated the State of California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) to “establish and validate minimum standards for the competency and training of electricians through a system of testing and certification.” Effective January 1, 2007 State law requires all electricians working for a C -10 contractor to be certified.
